Geoff is my baby brother. He was born in March 1968 and as a young child he was always one of the smaller children, very skinny legs but with a crop of red curly hair. This tiny person grew up into a tall & handsome young man. When he left school he started an apprenticeship at Ford & Slater in the garage section and I think we all knew very early on that coming home at night in his overalls all mucked up, was just not Geoff. Fortunately, whilst working there, he met Nick who introduced him to the office side of the business. He started to learn all about computer systems and never looked back. He then left and ventured out on his own as a contractor before finally ending up back working with Nick at BT Rolatruck where he travelled a lot to Europe with his work. I can honestly say that the office work was what Geoff was made for as it allowed him to dress immaculately in his suits and ties β he was always well dressed, even when he was in his casuals.
When our Mum & Dad retired and left Leicester for the coast, Geoff came and lived with me and my husband for a couple of years before purchasing his own house, ironically the very house that we frequented as young children as it used to belong to our Nana & Grandad.
Geoff was a very lively person, always the life and soul of the party and everybody who knew Geoff loved him. He was an avid Leicester City supporter and in fact was the reason I now support City. I remember when we got into Europe and played Atletico Madrid, Geoff went to Madrid with a load of his mates and let me, his older sister, tag along too. We had a ball even though the result did not go our way. I know Geoff would be gutted now knowing that City have just been relegated.
For reasons unknown to any of us, Geoff took his own life in July 1999, leaving behind our Mum & Dad (Joy & Hughie), his older brother Eddie & family, myself, and numerous aunts & cousins on the South coast, not to mention loads and loads of friends who called him Critch. We all bid farewell to Geoff by having one of his favourite pastimes β a karaoke, his favourite song currently being played. Geoff always used to sing this song (although I used to tell him he shouted it rather than sang because he got so carried away!!)
We all miss you Geoff. I look at your photo every day and always say to myself βif onlyβ. I hope that you are happy where you are now and looking down on us all especially Mum & Dad as they miss their baby terribly. You had a huge personality and that is something that everyone misses. I just wish you had been around so we could have celebrated your 40th this year. My word, what a celebration that would have been! Take care my little ginger nut. Love you loads, your big Sis Gaynor xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Missing you
Hi Geoff, Mum & Dad send their love. Spent two weeks with them at Christmas and we visited you up top hill - we just happened to choose the windiest day ever!! Wish you could have been at home with us to enjoy Christmas and the New Year. Still going to watch the City - not doing as well as would have hoped at the minute and you certainly would have had a few choice words to say to the team I bet. Hopefully things will start getting more exciting soon. Well take care, miss and love you loads - Gaynor xx
